I am currently a senior early childhood major in college. My major covers grades preschool through third grade. I have to go to college for 4years and have at least 120 hours of course work in addition to passing the Praxis ll exams to get my teaching lisence.
The only qualifications you will need are to be caring and dedicated and have a love of teaching children! Good luck!

Since you say HSC I presume you are in Australia? If so you have 2 options.... You can go to TAFE and do a diploma which will make you eligible to work with preschool aged children in a childcare setting. You will need to contact a TAFE near you, to find out how long the course is, I believe a couple of years minimum, but not 100% sure.

Alternatively you can go to uni and do an Early Childhood Degree which takes 4 years now, but it means you are eligible to work in childcare settings, preschools, kindergartens and teach infants/junior primary at schools

What state are you in? Each state has it's own prerequisites for pre-k teachers so you will need to go on line and look up your local dept. of social services web site- from there you should be able to get info on childcare- what type of a center are you wanting to work in? A state funded program such as Head Start or a private program owned by an individual? your answers will make a difference on the number of units you will need- Generally a private center has less restrictions then a state funded program- ( title 5 or 22 in Calif.) Calif. requires 12 E.C.E. units to be a qualified teacher in a private program and in a State funded you need an A.A. degree to be considered a fully qualified teacher- your local junior college should have a block of courses listed as early childhood development and these are the courses you will need to take along with your CPR & department of justice clearance ( fingerprints) and a recent T.B. test-
Good luck !
