My grandmar has one and all it says is 'Poppy' (his name) and 'I want a biscuit'. We thought he was supposed to be able to say more than that.

Golden capped conures aren't the best talkers, though they are capable of doing it. Mine never spoke, though many people I know have birds that will say about 15- 20 words.

Golden Capped Conure's are not known for big vocabularies. But all birds are individuals. The number one thing in a relationship with a pet is to love them for who they are - not what we wish they could be. One of my cockatoos sings opera - which is unusual - my other cockatoos rarely speak - and my Eclectus has a few clear words but doesn't speak much - many can be good speakers.

Having birds in my family for over forty years I do find that the more they are exposed to speech, music and quality human contact the more that they will be open to speaking if that is their personal inclination. Decide on specific phrases for certain situations and then have everyone involved use that phrase at the appropriate time. Try to be enthusiastic. For instance - when you serve food . . "Mmmm, yummy!" or "Mmmm, good!" When you first enter the room - "Hi there!" or, my Eclectus, Daniel says, "Peek-a-boo!" When you first enter in the morning, say, "Good Morning!" (Don't use this at other times) and at night, when covering the cage or putting him back in . ."Good Night, Sleep Tight!" or "Nighty, Night"

Sometimes birds who have not spoken will start if you use the same phrases over a period of months. It is up to you to be patient and consistent. Please - never teach a bird to use a phrase (or a swear) that you don't want to hear - because often they will repeat words all through the day.

Most important, love your bird for the wonderful being that he is and all the brightness that he brings to your life!

It all depends on how much time is spent talking to the bird, interacting with him and on. I have a Jenday, which are not supposed to be talkers. My Jack is an absolute chatter box. The list of words and phrases he puts out are amazing. He's a raspy talker, but but a talker non the less.

Most conures have the physical ability to mimic some words, but it all depends on the individual bird, the time spent talking to it, and the reinforcement it recieves. My Senegal says "Hmmmm?" "C'mere" "C'mon" "Ricky!" (my conure's name) and wolf whistles. Lol, those words are just enough for her to get what she wants in life!
