Not especially. They are a job within the air force, not really seperate units or a unique speciality (which could be considered elite). They are well trained and capable, as are all parts of the US military. I wouldn't call them elite in comparison to any special operations units, certainly.

Let me explain this to you the proper way, all branches of military service have what we call Special Ops teams, except for the coast guard. In the Air Force these groups are called Special Tactics Units, they work in capacity with Army Special Forces,Navy Seals, Army Rangers, and Marine Force Recon units. they consist of three fields of Air Force service (1) Combat Controller, (2) Pararescueman, and (3) Spec Ops Weatherman. These Airmen are highly trained in various combat related skills. I have had the pleasure of operating with these men on numerous ocassions over the years and can tell you from personal exsperiance that they are some of the finest and most elite men that i have served with.

No, Security Forces are not elite. They are for the most part just a job in the AF that does base patrol and watch over the weapons located on base. Nothing against them but usually when you fail out of your tech school for your job you become SFs. They are one of the AFSCs in the AF that deploy a lot, usually with the Army.
If you want to look into the AF elite look into jobs like Combat Controller (CCT), Pararescue (PJs), Tactical Air Control Party(TACP)

No. Security Forces in the Air Force is the combination of two previous career fields... Security Specialist (think Security Guard) and Law Enforcement (military cops). In addition to performing Law Enforcement duties on military installations, they are also responsible for physical security of vital resources, body guard duty for certain key personnel, base defense, etc... They are by far one of the most combat ready career fields in the Air Force, and they are special duty assignments where they could receive special training, but in and of themselves, they are not "elite", if you are referring to the status normally reserved for Navy Seals or Army Special Forces.

No. you're confusing security forces with the "Special Operations Wing(s) " - SOW has the operators ( commandos ).
Which is still a active specialty MOS.
So , all the people on here who say no, are very wrong.
