No-one knows what either of them looked like. There were no photographs back then and no portrait was ever painted or sculpture made of them with them sat right there in front of the artist.

All portrayals of their appearance were made much later on (just after Christians forgot one of the 10 Commandments forbade worshipping craven images and started actually creating them to worship).

There are images with Christ as a black person, blond and blue-eyed, red-haired and black-haired.

As Jesus was supposed to have been born from middle-eastern Jewish parents, the best assumption is that he was fairly dark-skinned with black hair and brown eyes. Mary can be assumed to have been the same.

Of course, if you believe the son-of-God stuff literally then you can say that God could have decided that Jesus at least was of any appearance he chose (though growing up as the only blond blue-eyed kid in the neighbourhood would've been tough!).

Alternatively Christians could argue that Jesus appears to each person in the form and appearance most acceptable or familar to that person.

All people from Middle-Eastern stock look very similar, whether they are Jews (who are a racial group) or Muslims (who are a religious group which also includes people who are non-Middle Eastern - remember Indonesia is a largely Muslim country and they are of course oriental in appearance). They have common ancestry (something I suspect that many would not be too keen to acknowledge today) and generally similar appearance as a result.

In terms of clothing, both Jews and Gentiles ("Arabs") wore similar clothing which was most suited to the hot climate of the region.

No one actually knows what Jesus or Mary looked like, but they definitely weren't Anglo European. First, they were Jewish, and second there are parts of the Bible that describe Jesus being dark skinned, which may mean he was black. (Oh, man! The right wingers have a fit over that theory!) In any case, does it really matter what his skin tone was? His message is more important.

What does a Muslim look like? What does a Christian look like? Who cares what Jesus and His mother looked like to you? If you are not a Christian, what is your point, and if you are a Christian, what is your point?

That was the style of mode of dress in those days in the east. The real reason here is why fashions suddenly changed about 100 years ago. Until then women wore clothing much the same and hats or head coverings.Even Christians.

One of the reasons I don't keep a picture on my wall---no one knows what Christ looked like or what His mother looked like. All I am told is that He was not comely---which means He probably wasn't handsome----so that we would not follow after Him because of His good looks. But He certainly had the message. :-)

Hate to break it to you, but what they really look like, (I'm assuming you are talking about clothing and not anatomy, because as far as that's concerned they look like whatever model the artist used), is 1st century Jews, because indeed, they were.
