Islam is related to Arabic, But that doesn't mean all Arabs are Muslims and all Muslims are Arabs. There are Arabic speaking Christians in Lebanon, Syria and other Arabic countries. Also, most Muslim number of Muslims are in Indonesia, which is not an Arab country.
I am a Muslim(Indian) and I don't know any reason as-salaamu alaikkum shouldn't be said on non-Muslims. It means "Peace on to you" in Arabic.
Actually learning languages is best way to learn about different cultures. If you are interested in learning Arabic, you can find good Arabic tutorial at http://www.madinaharabic.com

I studied Arabic when I lived in Saudi Arabia over twenty years ago and no one seemed to have a problem with it. As a matter of fact, Saudis were very helpful during the learning process.
I'm an American atheist but at the time was a Christian.
Speaking Arabic by a non-Muslim was not banned in Saudi Arabia over twenty years ago. I cannot speak for today, now that the US has decided "we" are going to convert everyone to a capitalist Jew or Christian by force if necessary.

What a language has to do with the religion. There are so many non-Muslims in Arabic speaking countries and they do speak arabic as their mother tongue.
Arabic is a language spoken in the middle eastern part of the world (mostly) and does not have no relations with religion what so ever.

It's okay to learn Arabic. Arabic is a language, it's not like it's a religious thing or anything! There are alot of Arab Christians who can't speak any other language but Arabic. Did you know that Allah is NOT only the name of the Muslim God? It's just the translation of the word "God" in Arabic, so Arab Christians call their God Allah too.

I'm an Asian Muslim and I think it's fine for ANYONE to learn Arabic. Arabic is only a language. If Muslims can speak and write English so fluently, so can non-Muslims speak and write Arabic.

Why not?? I'm French(white), 5 years ago I've worked at a France oil company in South East Asia as an expatriate. Most people in there are Muslims. Once, i interested in Arabic and learned it. Accidentally, i read Qur'an (belongs to one of local staff), I realized that i have wrong perception about Islam. Islam is very beautiful.
Alhamdullilah, it's been 2,5years since I've turned to Islam...

Sure is O.K. There is not stigma attached to learning Arabic. In fact, it will open many doors for you in business, the government, universities, research and development programs, the military and a host of covert programs, etc.

I'm an Iranian and my religion is God and I respect other religions. As far as I know, learning language doesn't concern your religion. there are arabs who are christians or non-muslim. You don't have be Muslim in order to be Arab or speak their language.
