I am married to a chinese lady and am waiting for her visa. It's a nightmare experience, check my Q and A's for our history of Questions and frustration. I've been in beijing for 5 months, delays and everything considered it can be as early as march april next year or 2 years, depending on the mood of the office doing the processing. If your serious about the relationship, I recommend he come here and live, the uncertainty of all of this will rip you apart. It's easy for him to live in china, get a job and residency if you're married. And you will have the advantage of him knowing where you are from and your culture, believe me it's way different than he's used to, and that can be a future problem for both of you

Have you ever physically met? In order to get this visa, you must have physically met within the last two years. Then you must follow all the other stringent rules. There are so many rules for this visa, it's best to hire an immigration attorney. It's easier to get a tourist visa, don't tell anyone you know someone over here and just accidentally run into him and fall in love. then get married and apply for residence status.
