Kohinoor diamond was discovered in Africa, the name means moutain of light. If I remember correctly, the origional diamond was considerably largerr than 400 carats. As is normal with diamonds, it was cut into several pieces to bring out the brilliance and the beauty of the stone. The largest piece, an egg shaped peice about the size of a fist is set upon the top of the royal sceptor of the Crown Jewels of England. Most of the other pieces are incorporated into the Royal Crown and other pieces of the Royal Jewelry that goes to the reigning monarch of Great Britain.

In 1911, the jewel was used in a crown made for Queen Mary, and in 1937, in another made to be worn by Queen Elizabeth at the coronation of her husband, King George VI in 1937. The Queen Mother's crown with the Koh-i-noor is in the Tower of London.
