VLC Media Player plays everything and contains no spyware like "RealPlayer", "Quicktime", or "Windows MediaPlayer". And It's FREE.

If you unable to play an avi file in windows mediaplayer . Reason must be missing codec. To solve this download k lite mega codec pack. Hope this will solve your problem

real player plays the avi files in the most best way it can
if at all it cant it will download some software from the real site adn then it will play it
