And the answer you want is...Mexico's immigration policy is absolutely medieval. When, not if, you are caught you are beaten, tortured, and imprisoned for years. If your family can raise the thousands of dollars in bribe money necessary to pay Mexico's government, the shell of you that is left will be deported!

Hey, they can't be more restrictive than ours, can they? According to the illegal immigrants and their supporters, American immigration policies are extremely restrictive, mean, and unfair. Didn't they all march and protest on May 1st because of that? Therefore, I would say that it must be a pretty sure bet that Mexico would welcome you with open arms and no need to bother applying to immigrate. Just walk across at an area where there are no customs booths. And, please make sure and bring your American flag with you because you will want to have that to wave around in the streets of Mexico as you chant, "Viva USA!"

Good luck!

Good Luck.
Just remember.....they can throw you out of the country anytime it suits them.
They don't even need a reason.
Just a little heads up before you settle into your spacious Hacienda.
And do not do it illegally.
Illegal immigration is a FELONY in Mexico.
They can thrown you in jail for a couple of years.
When does the southbound migration begin?

You have your tourist permit and vehicle permits, both are valid for 6 months. When it is about time for them to expire, just reapply. You need to get Mexican insurance for your vehicle, which is pretty cheap. If you plan on working, you need to apply for an FM3 visa. All of this just requires easy paperwork and a nominal fee. Also, if you want to purchase a home, you use a bank trust, which are insured by American companies. (http://www.estrelladelmar.com/Real_Estate/Real_Estate_Mexico_Ownership.htm) Good luck!
