First off, a bat isn't a bird, it's actually a mammal (the only one that can fly). I would use a live trap as I don't like killing "pests" if I don't have to just because they got into my house. They're inexpensive and come with instructions. I think you can get them at hardware stores. Either that, or call the local Humane Society. Maybe they'll help you with this. To keep bats out, make sure they have no way in. No open windows, no gaps or holes in the exterior walls, etc.

First of all, how long has it been in your house? Was it in the room you were sleeping in (in other words, did you wake up in the morning to find a bat in the room with you?) If so, Try to catch it (while wearing a pair of really heavy leather gloves ) and put it in a container. Call Either a vet or a doctors office to ask where you can take it to be tested for RABIES . If it tests, positive, you will have to have shots. They are all considered carriers and you would never know if one bit you because they have such tiny teeth (which leave such tiny holes....)

They're generally roosting on your attic and unintentionally entering your apartment. The final position they desire to be is within your apartment with you, they simply desire to get external to devour insects. If it is on your apartment near all doorways to different rooms. Open doorways or unscreened home windows within the room that the bat is in. Being in an enclosed room may be very complicated to the bat due to the fact it throws off their sonar. It'll generally fly round somewhat bit then relaxation for a at the same time however finally it'll discover the open house and fly out. Make definite that you just see it fly out tho cuz it'll cover someplace after which pop out the following night.

Don't hurt it! Just open the windows! Two people can carry a big bedsheet between them and guide it outside. It probably won't leave until dark. Of you can catch it in a butterfly net - just don't handle the bat on the tiny chance that it might be rabid. Or call animal control.

If you know it is only one bat, then you obviously know where it keeps and how to get to it. If it rains in your neck of the woods, it would be wise to chase it out during a downpour as the poor bat`s radar will not be functioning and would either get lost or just crash and die.

DO NOT KILL IT. It would be against the law and cruel. Can you call the local animal control, or fish and wildlife service in your area? They should be able to trap it and relocate it for you.
