Tough question Sanjoman. The middleweight division has produced some of the best boxers in history.
My rankings of the best middleweights ever:
1) Marvin Hagler
2) Carlos Monzon ( did not lose a fight from 1964-1977 when he retired)
3) Bernard Hopkins
4) Ray Robinson (the best fighter ever and he did win the middleweight championship 5 times but that meant he had to lose it 4 times, not at his best as a middle but as a welter)
5) Tony Zale

Carlos Monzon is at least one of the top 3 of all time without a doubt. He had a great jab and boxing skills to go along with a hammer for a right hand. His record was amazing as he did not lose a fight something like over a period of 10 yrs! He also fought against tough competition fighting guys like Benvenuti, Griffith, Napoles and others. I still say Sugar Ray Robinson was the best with Monzon and Marvin Hagler tied at a close second place.

I would agree with all the other answers, Monzon is definately one of the best ever but you would have to say that Sugar Ray Robinson and Marvin Hagler will always be put ahead of him in most peoples lists.

He certainly was one of the best. 14 defenses over 7 years is very impressive. I'm not sure he could be rated higher than Sugar Ray Robinson, Marvin Hagler, or even Bernard Hopkins for that matter. It's also a shame his life out of the ring was so tragic.

Sorry, But Hopkins is the best Middle Weight ever. Most Title Defenses as a middleweight. He was so powerful that he drove much of the talent out of the divison and when somebody steped into the ring he made them want out. I belive that Vargas was scared of Hopkins and that is why he never went up in weight to challenge Hopkins for his title

Monzon had a lot of title defenses, but he could hold a candle to sugar ray robinson
