Do not take Ambien or any sleeping pills with alcohol!!!

I'm a certified pharmacy technician (CPhT), and I will tell you that it is NOT good to take Nyquil and ambien together. It's not because of the alcohol (the amount of alcohol in a single dose of Nyquil is pretty insignificant), but rather the fact that both contain medications with the purpose of inducing sleep - in other words, taking both medications is an overdose of medication.
As for every night, it is recommended that a person not take Ambien more than 14 consecutive days, although some doctors will prescribe it against the recommendations of the drug manufacturer. Ambien manufacturers also state that if taken longer than that, the risk of becoming dependent on the medication is much higher.
And Ambien IS addictive, regardless of what someone had posted earlier. While they may claim it is not addictive ("if taken as the drug company implies), they fail to mention the fact that your body begins to rely on the medication to sleep. Your body will stop sending sleep signals, as it is expecting the Ambien to do the job instead.
Ambien is also one of the more dangerous prescription sleeping aids, as many people have been reporting adverse effects - such as sleepwalking, sleep-eating, and even sleep-driving while on the medication, and up to 24 hours after taking Ambien. I would suggest talking to your doctor about a safer possibility, such as melatonin.
Melatonin is a 100% natural sleep remedy sold over-the-counter. It helps your body to relax, and fall asleep naturally. Melatonin also helps to "reset" the body's clock, or in other words, helps you get back into a regular sleep schedule. One of the newer prescription medications, Lunesta, claims to be safer and less addictive than Ambien, but it is still somewhat new on the market, and therefore long-term effects have not been proven.
Lastly (I promise!) is the recommendation of working on stress relief, or trying proven stress reducers such as yoga or meditation. A counselor to speak to about the stress, and more specifically, what is causing the stress, is also a good idea, even if it helps just by getting things off your chest!

WHEW! Bet you're sorry you asked! :)

Ambien is not addictive, but you should not take it for a long period of time, as it CAN become a psychological addiction.
There are other Over The Counter drugs that work just as well and are a lot less expensive.
Do not take ANY type of seeping pill with Nyquil. It DOES have alcohol on it

sleeping pills are not much help with stress...i can only suggest that you determine the cause of the stress or what we call the stressor ( it could be physiologic or otherwise ) and find a way to solve it or better yet get rid of it. screaming in an open field gives relief. try it....

I started ambien about 3 weeks ago, everynight. My dr. knows this is long term b/c I've always had this problem. But I don't drink any alcohol-Nyquil contains alcohol.
