I think they do! When I was happy, but sad on the inside, my dog came up to me to let me stroke her, as if to help me get it off my chest! It really helps too!

Dogs know alot more than what we give them credit for.
They are very conciliatory about their observations. They usually give themselves away when immediate action is required to help their loved ones.
I've had many dogs identify with my mood or feeling at the time I'd feel it.
Being with your best friend is never a mistake when you need a Little love boost in your life.
They really are great for the soul.

You bet they do. They have this uncanny ability to sense how we feel, not unlike children. A few years ago, I experienced a tragedy in my life (not animal related). I was struggeling with it. One night, I woke up...and one of my dogs, -- the others were sound asleep -- was standing at the foot of my bed just watching me. It creeped me out at the time. But in retrospect, I feel as though she was guarding me, or trying to somehow comfort me. She just watched me...I will never forget her eyes. Sort of like my Mom did when I was sick when I was a kid. To this day, I will never forget the look in her (the dog's) eyes.

Very spooky, but, in a sense comforting. This has been over 3 years ago, and I am still unnerved by this.

Yes. They even have dogs that help people when they have seizures. The dogs know and lay on top of them until they are over. So the answer to your ? is yes dogs are very smart and good animals.

I have a Pomeranian, and whenever I'm sad she looks at me differently and oftens just sits with me for a while. I'm not sure if it's scientifically proven that they can tell your emotions, but I think that it's possible - as it has been proven that dogs can sense adrenaline, and therefore fear. That's at least one emotion.

I believe they do. It's like they know how you are. My dogs are the same way. They are there giving unconditional love. Too bad more people can't be like that.
