Not every one. I stayed at a hotel in San Francisco - they had a copy of the Teachings of Buddha.

The Gideons are an evangelical group dedicated to spreading the word of the Bible. The hotel-room thing is traditional, and goes back to 1908, Michigan.

" It began distributing free Bibles, the work it is chiefly remembered for, in 1908, when the first Bibles were placed in the rooms of the Superior Hotel in Iron Mountain, Michigan."

A lot of people may want to read the Bible during their stay at a hotel and it's just convenient to have it there instead of carrying around a Bible.

Because there is a nut born every minute who inevitably puts it there.Just like the same reason why there is always a copy of "The Watchtower" in every laundromat.

You can thank the Gideons for that!
They are a group who put them there for people to read.
They also hand them out to school students, hospitals, and the military.
