I mean if they don't like a girl and continue to talk/flirt with her... what's the point?

I've been led on big time by girls. It's terrible.
I guess people lead others on because they are to indecisive to say yes and to inconsiderate to say no. Some people just like to have lots of attention and they don't mind hurting others. It makes them feel powerful, I guess.
Sometimes saying no is a big gift to give someone because it'll probably make the person dislike you, but it will be better for them in the long run. Some people are incapable of being selfless like that.

They don't, if a guy flirts then her likes her, if he doesn't then he doesn't. You see, men want sex, if she's hot then he likes her and he'll flirt (we all need some tail), if she's fat or fugly then he won't flirt (unless he's a chubby chaser). It may be that he was interested in you but something better came along and now he just has you on the back burner. If not then then you're probably misinterpreting his behavior and he isn't really flirting at all.
A better question would be why do women lead men on (though to be fair it's really a matter of men mistaking "friend signals" for "sex signals"). Bottom line: if you're hot then he likes you, if you're average, if you're fat/ugly, or if he's currently screwing someone hotter then you, then he doesn't like you as much.

Nobody wants to be alone even if the alternative isn't something they particularly want. And they might just like the girl as a friend and not romantically.

Because those are the head games they play and then they complain about women who play head games, they don't know what they want, they never do, all they want to do is have sex and play, they are allllll the same!

turn it around why do girls mislead guys. Guys are hoping for sex and girls are hoping for a laugh at the guys expense.
