If you don't take birth control, you could gain much more when pregnant. The pill has hormones that mimic the hormone present in a woman's body when pregnant but that does not mean weight gain. Stay active and eat right and you should not have any problems.

It can happen, but it depends on you and the type. When I was on the pill I didn't gain any weight. When I went on the Lunelle monthly shot i gained about 5# per month. Weight gain is almost always listed as a side effect....
In my opinion, if you REALLY don't want to be pregnant, a good diet with moderate weight gain is a lot better than 50 # of pregnancy weight that will take forever to get rid of!

Yes it's true. It's the hormones. But not taking birth control can cause you to gain weight as well...it's called pregnancy.

I am not sure. When I took birth control pills I lost a lot of weight. You have to go to a doctor to get them, why not ask him or her. The doc can give you a more accurate answer than asking us non-professionals

I think it depends on your hormones & the type of birth control pill. There's different kinds though so if one makes you that way, you can ask to try a different kind.

yep, it is a common side effect. b/c tricks your body into thinking it is pregnant, thereby causing a hormone shift and possible weight gain. its not like your gonna gain weight equal to a prego, but a few pounds is common.
