I really do mean this as serious question. My wife is expecting twins, our firt children and I worry horribly about such things.

You know, I thought about these kind of things when I was carrying my son. I eventually realised that all I was doing was making myself scared and miserable by trying to come up with answers to questions that were not only unanswerable, but also unlikely to ever happen! The thing is, this question isn't something you can rationalise or resolve logically in theory. That kind of decision would be traumatic and painful and messy - and would depend on medical advice. Don't torture yourself thinking of the possibilities of something going wrong, because you are just inviting fear and pain unnecessarily into your life. Instead, think about all the wonderful experiences that lie ahead for you and your family. I was ill during my pregnancy, there were genuine fears about my son's health..... but he's now an intelligent and happy 10 year old who has brought me nothing but joy! I wish for you the same good fortune and happiness.

As a scientist I would have to evaluate this from a non-emotional point of view: choose the one with the best chance of survival and the potential for the highest quality of life. It's just like gambling: choose the most likely to win because you certainly can't pick which one you love more. As far as defects go, I would choose the one who had the least life threatening even if this mean a deformity of abnormal appearance. These issues can be dealt with more easily by surgery or psychotherapy than severe illness.

That is a very hard decision to make. It also depends upon the situation. Where I live there is an excellent hospital w the best NICU (neonatal intesive care unit) It is in Virginia at the University of Virginia Hospital. I had my first born there she had her intestines on the outside of her body in a sac. I was very scared but she made it through and is now 6 years old. I have since had another girl who thank God was healthy. I WISH YOU THE BEST OF LUCK!!!!!!!!!

As a mother with two children, I can tell you that this is not a choice I could or would make. We would all die together before I saved one and not the other.

If you want to worry then worry about something that you have control over like how are you going to provide for them or was it even wise to bring children into a world with increasing hatred and decreasing energy supplies.

If I really had to I would flip a coin and chose accordingly, and I would feel really really bad about the one that had to die, it will probably haunt me for the rest of my life, even though I had no choice but to save one. Your question is a very difficult one.

Terrible question. Seems like one of the child is your left hand, and the other is your right hand... Both are made up of flesh...

Hmm, we should really flip a coin.

But it will be good if we try to save all of them cause nothing is impossible in life. =] Good luck!

why do you feel you are going to have to choose? people have healthy twins all the time, i think you may be over-reacting a little. is there something wrong with the babies? i could not choose, i would give the situation to god and leave it in his hands, good luck

It's never easy to make so decisions, because we're talking about a human's life, in this case...a child's. I think I couldn't choose...I would just die for them and let them live.
