I prefer to use pencil for jotting things down - but if I must use ink - it's blue for me, that way I can tell if something is an original or a copy.

I definitely all the time use BLUE.
And the pen I prefer is a Pilot G-2 (07) gel ballpoint pen.
They're about $1 each.

Black, & I'm from Singapore.
School regulations dictate that we're suposed to use only blue to black colours, though it's apparent that no one really pays attention to this, judging by the multi-coloured worksheets my teachers receive. They don't really mind, until it becomes illegible due to the faded colour.
