I am Professional (Post Graduate Degree) and interested in working for the American Embassy in Argentina. How would I go about finding out how to be appointed for OR apply for a position other than through the Argentina American Embassy site

If you are Argentinian, you would apply locally via the Embassy, but you would be a Foreign National employee, not a Foreign Service Officer. This is not a bad opportunity, as these posts are often well paid and responsible, and in many cases, long service at post will enable you to apply for expedited US residency. You can usually find these job listings on the Embassy website.

If you are American, you would need to apply either to the Department of State (http://www.state.gov/) or to a Government/military department which sends attaches overseas (such as DEA, JAG, NASA, FBI etc). As others have mentioned, you would have little chance of ensuring that you ended up in Argentina, or if you did, your posting would be only for 2 or 3 years and then you'd be off to somewhere else. It's also a really tough job to get, so I wish you very good luck indeed!

But it is a great life!

If you are only interested in working for that particular embassy and nowhere else, you will have to apply as a local hire through the embassy's human resources department.

If you join the foreign service, as another responder suggested, you will have to be available for worldwide assignment.

State Department. You will need to take the Foreign something Test. I hear "Don't Know Much About History" is a good book to read before the test.
