Your eating habits usually don't change a whole lot until you become symptomatic, which is usually when your T cell count is exceedingly low and your viral load is very high. Those are the two main numbers that will tell the doctors how you're doing. The T cells are a specific group of white blood cells that the virus attacks and turns into mini HIV factories. The viral load number measures how much of the virus is present in your blood.
Most HIV+ patients begin losing weight either because they are nauseous from the drug cocktail, (which limits the growth of the virus but causes a lot of other side effects), or because their HIV+ status has changed into AIDS or AIDS Related complexes. Also, many HIV+ and AIDS patients have issues with thrush, (also known as an oral yeast infection), and this can cause loss of appetite if allowed to go on for an extended period of time. It can case sores in the mouth and esophogus that make it painful to swallow even water.
Best bet is to go to your doctor and get tested. There's no sense in worrying about it if you're negative. If you're HIV+, the sooner you get on the drug cocktail the better your chances of living a healthy life. Look at Magic Johnson. He's been HIV+ for over a decade and is still not symptomatic of AIDS.
I watched a friend slowly die from AIDS Related Complexes. If she'd taken better care of herself and kept up with her drug regimine she could have had several more years with her children. As it is, she died WAY too young....even for someone with HIV.
Even if you find that you are HIV+, take care of yourself with proper diet and exercise, take the meds your doctors prescribe, and be careful to minimize the risk of infection to those around you.

You didn't say your age, and that would be important to decide if weight gain is normal. In any case, you should continue to eat a healthy diet especially vegetables and fruit to increase your vitamin level. But you should have the test to determine if you have HIV. Remember all of your sexual partners are at great risk if you have HIV and in some countries this is considered 3rd degree murder and you open the door to reprisal from the person or relative. HIV research is continuing and hopefully we can find a vaccine or perhaps even a cure...but the current treatment is mostly prolonging life at great expense to the patient.

You need tobite the bullet and get tested. Not knowing dosen't make yo unot infected. It is a difficult thing to do, but you can go into some serious depression living in constant fear and paranioa untill you find out. Be bold and take charge of your life. It is not the death sentance it once was, and there is alot of support for people that are infected. Get tested, please.

~~chances are with HIV you would loose weight not gain it.... and if you suspect you have it... get yourself tested... it would be better to know than to live in wonder.... at least if you do have it they could give you meds to give you a better quality of life toward the end... plus if you do have it you don't want to end up passing it on to someone else. Condoms do not prevent aids. they all have microscopic holes in them that are large enough for the HIV and HPV virus' to pass through, so, do yourself a favor, and get yourself tested~~

you know what they should do? not to be judgmental, but they should have a personals site for singles with HIV and AIDS so they can hook up with other infected people and not spread the desease any further. That way they don't have to be single their whole life in fear of infecting someone.
To answer your question, though, If you have HIV, though, no diet is going to help that. And if you don't have it, no diet will give it to you.
