I have known a few Christians to secretly believe in this concept. But because of certain emperors, like Justinian, and Popes, like Pope Innocent the 3rd who killed over a half of a million Cathars for their belief in reincarnation, most of this previously believed doctrince has been wiped out. If you have a hard time believing many Christians believed in this concept go to this web site
http://reluctant-messenger.com/reincarnation.htm
From what I hear there are more Christians that believe in this than most people know because they do not want flak from their churches and or peers by professing so.
I believe present day versions of Christianity are still heavily influenced by the effects of the Roman Empire that used the once peaceful religion to control the masses. Without fear, stemming from the doctrine of everlasting hell, it would have been to difficult control the masses. If you can control the peoples thoughts you can control the peoples actions.

starrwoode, Yes, you are so right Emperor Constantine would only officially recognize Christianity if they came to a group consensus about many things, including which books to canonize, and which to leave out. The other gospels where destroyed, forgotten, or locked away. By controlling information the Roman Empire controlled its people. Prior to Constantine the empire controlled its people with the Roman God's and Goddess, incidentally also they borrowed these Gods from another culture, mostly Greek to be exact. So as you can see they switched to and subverted one system for another.

BrotherMichael, your interpretation of that passage is rather narrow. It could alos mean you die and are judged, then come back according to that judgment, die again, and come back and again, and again, till you have transcended judgments.

impossble_dream, your answer seems a sensibly obvious answer. Thanks for actually answering the question and not just spouting your own personal dogma as many coming from a sense of ego identification often feel they must do.

wibbie, Origen believed in the pre-existence of souls. Yes, our souls may have existed before this physical manifestation. But they may have also experienced other physical manifestations too.

triton684, from my perspective I am hearing vastly more propaganda from one side than the other. This is actually a product of Romanized Christianity who basically made a deal with the deal with the devil when it became the offical state religion. Read some history and then you might start to question beliefs you feel so dearly attached to. Don't worry the identity crisis won't last forever.

LoveMyLife, I appreciate your free loving spirit. It sounds like you are very close to classifying yourself as spiritual and not religious. Once you too closely indentify with any particular religion you start to close yourself off to the infinite possibilities that this universe has to offer.

I believe in God and have been baptised a Christian. I go to a Christian church. I also believe in reincarnation. There are several things from different religions that make sense to me. I also wish to believe that "There are more things in Heaven and Earth, than one can imagine". I think if we LIMIT what God is , that is a sin against God. God is infinate, and unfathomable. I accept that my finite mind could not grasp the "vastness" of God. I believe because it is hard to deny that there is a Creator. Even if God uses chaos to create, it is no less an existence. I do wish that people would "wake-up" a bit to realize that Men wrote the bible, not God. Most other religions came before Christianity. Most religions believe in the same concepts. We could also do without the word religion for awhile, and see the value in our personal spirituality. Increase our personal morals. Create better selfves.

I sure do, The angel Gabriel told me in Aug. 1973 that, i' am the reincarnation of James Zebedee. The angel Gabriel told me that; "All of the Churches are guilty of abominations."
http://www.docpop.org/2007/04/jim-stensland-gods-prophet/.
There are 2 different Messiah, a King, and a Priest.
Jesus is the King and James Zebedee is the Priest the teacher of Righteousness in the DEAD SEA SCROLLS.
I' am the Mahdi, the reincarnation of James Zebedee who was the beloved disciple!
The beloved disciple in the Gospel of John was a Priest.
James Zebedee was the teacher of righteousness in the Dead Sea Scrolls who was referred to as the Messiah. Because there are 2 different Messiahs, a King, and a Priest.
The angel Gabriel told me back in Aug. 1973 that i was the reincarnation of James Zebedee who was the beloved disciple. Also that Jimmy Carter is the Anti-Christ, and that he will change his name and divorce his wife.

I heard an interesting theory once on this topic.... and it might make sense to some Christians who believe in a pre-earth state of our souls....
I don't know much about reincarnation, but I know people have sometimes claimed to have memories of things that went on long before they were born....
If our souls are eternal, and we lived as spirits before we came to this earth, who's to say we didn't experience many things along with people who came to earth long before we did? Many of the memories that we may have of things that seemingly happened to us, could have happened to people that we "traveled" with before our own birth. In theory, we'd recall them as our own memories because we may have been so closely involved (in a different dimension?), yet we did not have those experiences ourselves as physical beings, just as spirits hanging out with people on earth, maybe without their knowledge. Do you feel like you're being watched, now????
Just a theory.... I like theories... they make life interesting!

Well if you're a christian, AND believe in reincarnation, then you're screwed. The bible clearly states that we will be "as asleep" in our graves until the 2nd coming at which point I think it is 144,000 or so are risen and the rest are left for a long, long, long time of suffering on earth.....some all forgiving god that is

Your knowledge of Church history is skewered and wanting at best.
Heb 9:27 And as it is reserved to men once to die, and after this, Judgment;
That pretty much says it all, doesn't it? We die once, then face judgment, end of story.
