hi.i am an electronics engineer and pretty much into photography..i think investing money into a 1 mega-pixel video camera would be a waste because you wont have much or rather zero clarity in your shots upon enlarging.even 3x4 prints also will have very less clarity or sharpness.A 5 mp(megapixel) camera provides greater resolution and hence you can very easily enlarge your shots onto A4 size sheets.thats a printer sheet or sheet that is used for xerox.u can imagine the size..you insist on sony.so i think a 3.6 to 5 mp camcorder(mini dv) would be best suited for both video and still shots.and also would make a perfect wedding gift for a photography enthusiast.

Nothing is cheap. Expect to pay a lot. Many cheap digital cameras will "blur" if the camera is moved while clicking. The capture speed is too slow.

A more expensive camera will have sharper pictures.

Go with 5 Mega-Pixel or better.

Choose rechargeable lithium batteries.

If you must go cheap, but with very good quality, then try an Aiptek camera.

Ignore jacobplano, what is he talking about??? Mini-DV is better quality than any DVD. Where can you buy a true 6-8 Mega-Pixel camera for the price of "one of those". One of those what???

Basically a low number of megapixels is horrible, and the larger numbers are the best.

See the disadvantage of digital photography is that, where with film, the film simply captures all of the light, with digital photos, the pictures are made up of pixels, or small squares of color. So, if you enlarge this, the image becomes "pixelated," meaning it loses quality and you can see these squares. And even if you make the image smaller, you can lose quality as the pixels are squished together. So you want a large number of megapixels so that you can print a picture and retain quality and detail.

There is a similar analogy with digital audio, and why small audio files lose a lot of quality. Digital equipment "samples", as it can not capture everything like film or analog audio recording equipment.

do not get a mini dv, they are terrible. you could buy a 6-8 mega pixel camera and a video camera (tape) for the price of one of those.
