Before i begin my question ... I wish to let u guys know i m not a Christian. One of my frnds recently "converted" herself. But some of her things that she said about Bible really surprised me. She said the following I m getting doubt on:

1. There is nothing called 'soul' according to bible.
2. There is no places as 'heaven'
3. No place called 'hell'.

I heard that in Bible also Christ had mentioned about soul, heaven or hell. What my question is:
Is the Bible she is refering really Authentic. For all Scriptures and holy books there are many unverified/fake editions available. In the Authentic one do we have descriptions of Soul, Heaven and hell?

If so, pls let me know the exact Chapter and Verses so that I can guide her.

If her Bible is not correct pls let me know which1 shud I suggest her to refer?

Or Else,

Is she correct?

PS: Atheists Pls stay away . I need serious answers.

Well I m not Atheist or non-beliver. I just dont know how and where bible has presented these concepts. Out of 480+ verses just give me refs for few so that I can make her see where things exactly are or to verify her edition of Bible.

I sincerely want to prevent her frm getting lost. Thats all.

Thank you.

I recommend using either the New International Version (NIV) or the New American Standard Bible (NASB) because they are generally considered to be the two most accurate translations from the original languages directly into modern English. They are both what is called "word and thought" translations. Go to the link and do a search for "soul" and in the NASB I found 289 times "Soul" is used, "Heaven" appears 637 times, and "Hell" appears 15 times.

If you look in various translations you may find some variance but it is clear that she is not reading any sort of genuine Bible. Perhaps she has gotten hold of one of the cult versions, ie Jehovah's Witnesses (they are really screwed up,) or just as bad some of the crap the Mormons have to offer.

The term "Authorized Version" is generally used in reference the King James. There is controversy that surrounds this version as many people sincerely believe that this is the only trustworthy English translation. They do not understand that the King James that we have today is not the same translation that was done in 1611, being Authorized by the English King, King James. It is in fact the TENTH revision of the 1611 Bible. The language has changed too much for modern day English speakers to follow it. I am not saying that the King James is bad, it just hangs on to a good bit of archaic language usage, although it is beautiful to read. Also, since 1611, there have been newer discoveries or ancient scrolls that help modern translators to do an even better job.

If you need more study aids let me know I can point you towards lots.

There are 484 verses containing the word "soul", 344 verses containing the word "Heaven" and 20 verses with the word "Hell". Of course, Heaven and Hell are described in other terms as well i.e. Paradise, Gehenna, Hades, etc. I think your friend got mixed up in a cult, Jehovah Witnesses maybe? Since you are not a believer, I don't know how much help you would be to her in understanding the Scriptures. Send her here, we will help her out, that is why we are here. Thanks for caring about your friend.

Firstly i,d like you to know that I've studied bible interpretation from the original(Greek for New testament and Hebrew for old) ''Soul''
is mentioned hundreds of times in both testaments, meaning sometimes ''life'' and other times the ''soul '' as we know it. It is a matter of an educated interpreter to judge when it means one or another, although many times is obvious. Also heaven and hell are mentioned in both testaments, (mostly in new). Hell in old testament is called ''ADES" and is a place foe ALL dead. Although heaven existed BC it was only opened after Jesus died.

The Bible speaks in great lengths about all of these things
The Soul is mentioned 498 times
Heaven 606 times
Hell 54 times

She could possibly have one of the New Age versions which are kinda "politically correct" but chances are she just hasnt read her Bible yet
