i ask because the last girl i became friends with, liked a lot and asked out turned me down so...

Yes. That's how you get to know them. It's part of the courtship ritual. If you get turned down don't worry about it. Ask someone else when they come along. Then after a date or three, both of you will have an idea if you want to continue getting to know each other. No one is going to say yes if you don't ask.

Asking her out could mean you're interested in her. But going out means you can get to know each other. So don't give her the wrong signals.
Simply tell her you like to go out with her & get to know more of each other & see if she's keen about it. Go out as friends first. That will take the pressure off from both of you. Relax.
Start dating & start falling in love only when both of you like each other to minimize the disappointment / pain / anger / frustration / anger / akwardness.
Do not fret if she turns you down. There's so many girls out there waiting for you to ask.

Well I say go for it. You can get to know each other on each date if the first one guys really well. And as for the other girl that you really got to know and then asked out, it was probably because she got to know you so well she put you in that friend zone. So she thought you were too nice to date. Guys really have to be careful of that.

I think you should make an effort to know her first and then when things are a little comfy, then you can ask her out to know each other more.
