Dell usually installs a program called Sonic that has 2 applications:
*My DVD
*Record Now.
Use Record Now to burn CDs, DVDs and Data discs.
If you don't have it, Itunes, Real Player and Windows Media will let you burns music CDs.

In all seriousness, please return your PC to Dell and say it was defective. Then, purchase another one without any type of burner whatsoever. Doing data backups? Back your stuff up to a 2nd hard drive. Need MP3s? Buy an iPod and transfer them from your PC. Need to burn a DVD home movie? Capture your home movie to your PC and stream it over to your TV. Need to take some other files with you? Buy a $ 50 USB drive that holds 2 GB of data. Need to play songs in your car? Buy a car stereo with a USB port and use that same USB drive.

DVDs and CDs are SOOOOO 20th century. :)

Just do a search. START>SEARCH. Or check the software that came with the computer, CD's etc.
