i want to get my dog fixed. He's a male jack russell terrier that's one year and eight months old. he's very active and loves humping every dog he meets. Will getting him fixed make him less horny and is he old enough for it? what are some pros and cons?

Your dog is old enough for it, and he wouldn't be humping everything anymore, he'll be less active after the surgery but they still love you, and after a little bit they will start being active again, they have to let themselves heal though, and they might gain some weight, but it your puppy pukes alot go back to the clinic and talk to the doctor. I suggest getting your dog fixed, life will be easier.

Getting him neutered will definitely stop him from being HORNY "as you say" but... that doesn't mean he won't hump.
Maybe he won't do this as much, "or for the same reason anymore". lol
In any case, you really should get him neutered. It depends on the Vet and the size/weight of the dog and rather or not both testicles have dropped as to cost. He was old enough quite some time ago.

Getting your dog neutered will help him in many areas. The "humping" may decrease after the surgery, but most dogs do it as a dominance thing. Many female dogs "hump". Neutering will also help to prevent many cancers later in your dog's life. As for the price, it depends on your area and personal vet. Try contacting your local ASPCA, they may have a program that will do the surgery for a cheaper price, or may be able to direct you to someone that knows of somewhere cheaper.

Getting your dog neutered wont necessarily fix the problem. Many dogs that do get clipped still hump everything. The downside of neutering is that it could change your dogs personality tremedously. I know alot of people that have opted for a shock collar, after a few times of gettin zapped, he'll know not to do it anymore.

Yes he is old enough and Yes he will be less horny. so some cons are when he wakes up from the operation he'll be a little wobbly and sleepy from Anastasia, but he'll be back to normal the next day.

YES IT WILL MAKE HUMP LESS BUT REMEMBER DOGS HUMP EITHER WHEN THEY ARE IN HEAT OR.TO SHOW THEY ARE THE DOMINANT ONE. BUT GETTING HIME FIXED WIL HELP ALOT. IT CAN COST BETWEEN $40 AND $100 DEPENDING ON WHERE YOU GO BUT CHEAPER ISNT ALWAYS BETTER. IT IS A TYP OF SURGERY AND YOU DONT WANT YOUR DOG IN THE WRONG HANDS

I am in favor of getting all domestic dogs fixed... for Male dogs, there are no real cons to having the proceedure done. Also, Male dogs can have it done at any time (i.e. no age restriction). And yes, his 'sex drive' will decrease, as will certain male dominated characteristics (such as marking 'his' territory by scent).

yes, getting him fixed will help with him huntching animals and people.....LOL and it usually runs around 100.00 or more to get him neutered... But call your local Spay association they may be able to help with the cost. My local spay assocation paid all of 127.00 but 20.00 and i had to pay that.... I have a female dog which is more costly then a male dog....Good Luck

He's more than old enough for it. Definitely get him fixed. It will calm him down and he will be a better pet for you. Plus you won't take the chance of unwanted puppies somewhere in the neighborhood. (So many pets are killed each year because they aren't wanted.)

You definately should get your dog fixed. Your local humane society or animal control might do very low cost neutering.
