Also it depends where you live most places you can go to the court house and use thier computers to pull up information driver records, crimes they commited, or crimes commited against them, family info, and so on you can also get very limited information on a person using the internet. It all depends on what you are doing this background check for. Also the BCA Bureau of criminal apprehension in your area may have an access to information too. I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for, not sure what kind of background check you're looking for---it's not free (I don't know of any free ones), but it's less hassle and cheaper than going through the process of buying a gun. I would think this'd be a blanket check, anyway.
