i'm just coming back from NYC, i stayed 1 week, right now it's hot, sometimes it rains but for a little while so if you are going to be walking just carry an umbrella with you, you can drees whatever you want, i took mostly skirts and sleevless t's but also you can wear capris, you can wear anything up but when it's about the shoes, tennis, flip flops or shoes that are really comfortable, really, you walk a lot, and sometimes you still have energy but if you don't have really good shoes you can't go on...
so packed your favorite clothes and shoes that you trust...
that's the best advice i can give you
and enjoy NY, it's amazing

You need clothes for warm and comfortable weather, it probably won't be too cold. You should bring less than you want to bring back so either pack lightly or pack a bag inside one of your bags. You will want to bring a camera, with either lots of film or a good memory card, having a laptop to download the pictures on to will also be a good idea, for a digital camera, that way every evening you can remove all the pictures and start fresh the next day. You will want to make sure you have your ID and credit cards, and a safe place to put them. Also having the numbers for your credit card companies written down somewhere will really help in case you lose your cards. After that I think I would enjoy the shopping, the food, and have fun with all the sites.

We went in late May of last year to NYC and DC. I'm from the south and I was shocked at how cool it was I wore a jacket most of the time and I'm not normally a cold natured person. I would definitely pack a light jacket.
Bring light cotton clothes that you can layer and then if there happens to be a heat wave while you are there you can just not layer them.

It depends on whether it is a vacation or a business trip. Or is it for another purpose.
I travel a lot for business and personal reasons. After many years I have learned to travel light with a roll on bag for up to a week. I take black pants, black skirt, black shorts and tops that interchange with all. I wear jeans on the plane with sports or walking shoes and pack sandals or dress shoes. I have clothes that fold well and don't wrinkle, most kniit "travelers".
Take extra underwear, and be sure you have comfortable shoes as you will walk a lot.

It's hot all over right now. Just pack regular clothes. No heavy stuff though.
