Because they can't tolerate any of us that aren't like them. It's a club of many, different beliefs and non beliefs, larger then they are, so it's not so unfriendly in here... lol ; )

The United States can not establish, sanction or deny the validity of any religion. There is no such thing as a "legal" or illegal religion in the United States. Non profit organizations, including religions, may apply for tax exempt status or other benefits allowed in local jurisdictions but it is not the religion which is being allowed or disallowed.
People who object to witches aren't doing so from a legal basis anyway. They either come from a culture where "witch" always means someone who causes harm through magic or their religious upbringing makes any other definition (other than harmful) of witch impossible.

There are many religions thare are 'legal' that people have a problem with. Narrow-minds incite many problems.

Witchcraft is something that has been surrounded by mystery and mystique for ages. There are many inaccurate impressions that have been made throughout the ages, as well as during present times. Many are frightened of what they do not understand or they may be frightened by what they think they know. Others just lack the ability to accept (even if they don't agree with) things that are different from their own experiences or way of doing things.

I would like to correct you on one point. Wiccan doesn't necessarily mean Witch. A Witch is one who practices Witchcraft. And no, Witchcraft itself is not considered a religion, however, Wicca is.

The reason why some people have such a hard time with it (it's usually fundies) is because in their eyes, they don't understand how something that "promotes Satan" could be considered a religion. It's their choice to feel that way, and their choice to believe that Wiccans actually worship Satan. However, it is my right as an American citizen to have my religion recognized.

The problem is they are stuck in the puritanical mindset. They don't take time to even try to understand what we are all about. They believe that we worship the devil (which doesn't even exist in our religion). We perform sacrifices of animals or babies (which is against our beliefs as we hold life and children dear). They think we are evil (no just different). They think that we cast curses (we don't that is bad karma) instead we are healers. They fear and condemn that which they don't understand.

I actually know more about their bible than most do. I know that many Christians haven't read the bible from cover to cover like a book, instead they use it as a reference guide. I have read it 3 times front to back, and quote it better than some, including some passages that are in the more ancient texts.

I think it depends on where you live. My sister is a witch in Washington state - no problems. I'm in Mesa, AZ and the next town over is almost a magnet for witches. But it doesn't seem like there are any problems or persecutions here either. Of course, you gotta remember that most people fear what they don't understand.

Either they don't understand it because all they know of it is what they've heard in old tales and from Hollywood; or they're frightened by it because their religion says it's evil.

Oddly enough, I've found that it's not "most people" who have a problem with it - I've actually had only a couple of people who had issues with knowing I'm pagan or the fact that I wear a pentacle. Most of them ask a couple of questions, then say "Oh, okay" and go on their merry way.

It is strange to me that the witches do not need a written law to conduct themselves in a proper manner. Everyone else, the Atheist foremost, have to have things spelled out for them so that they will know the difference between right and wrong. The pagans in general are truer Christian than the truest of Christians...Life is indeed a mystery.

I don't have a problem with witches. I used to live with one before I became a Christian. Now I pray for her because like most all witches she was deceived by the devil and thought that she was actually working for good in this world.

I feel sorry for people who want to do good and who get lured into seeking supernatural power apart from the God of Heaven in order to bring their desire to pass.

I know that most Wiccans don't believe in the devil and they don't believe in the God of the Bible either. That's just another reason for me to feel sorry for them. Just because a person doesn't "believe" a report that the water source they are drinking from is contaminated with a chemical that will eventually cause an agonizing death doesn't make it untrue.

So?... witchcraft is still a deception of evil and all who participate are enemies of God.... The Good News is... even a witch can now repent and come to God in The Way He prosribes and recieve God's free gift of Salvation... in "the old times" God had decreed that all withes be put to death whenever they were found... Jesus The Christ paid the sin debt even for witches, all who will accept Him that is. So now witches have a chance of eternal live in Heaven like all others...IF, They will come to God in His Way.
