Aaron, it's not so much as they want to; but it appears more than likely that their tendency towards pathological lying is plainly a matter of life-style; at one juncture in their lives, they found that 'a convenient lie' got them through what promised to be a difficult scrape in their Lives; and now they've come to view their lies not unlike dear friends that they now know that they cannot live without; because, just as Dog begets dog; Lies can ONLY beget other, generally more serious lies! And, once that Life-style has been established, it is very difficult to even ATTEMPT to go back! By the time this juncture is reached, the 'Lie-Life' has assumed a life, -AND- ,Persona of its very own. Really, these type of folksare so severely delusional that they can find no solace in the Truth, &, since that CANNOT be achieved, they figure "Why the Hell even bother, ANYMORE!"

I wouldn't call it lying as much as I would say that its not telling the whole truth. I've come to learn that nobody really wants to hear the whole truth. Most people want to hear themselves talk more than be patient and listen to others. Keep that in mind when you think of this person lying. Also, remember that the word "honor" is not so cared about anymore. People do not care about honor or reputation or name as much as they used to.

Insecurities. Fear of disappointing someone. Habit. A need for privacy. Saving someone's feelings. Defense mechanism.

The reasons are broad, and can be mind numbingly complex or startlingly simple.

its because if they told the truth then the other person might get hurt and they don't want to hurt the other person.

they also think like if you told them what you do for a living,or work or live you might think less of them.

thats why people agree with certain types of music... "o yeah i love 50 Cent.." even though you can't stand the guy...they just want to fit in,

many reasons, here are just about .00000000000002 percent of them.
1: They don't like their life, and lies may help them life a farie tale.
2: To impress
3: To draw attention to them selves.
4: Because sometimes people dont' need to knwo everything about you.
5: because they're embarrased

Like I said, there are loads more! ☺☻☺

If it truly is ALL the time, it's a mental illness, called being a pathological liar. Sometimes it gets so bad the person starts to actually believe their own lies.

They have such a low opinion of their lives so they try to make one up that isn't so boring.
My guess is it's a self esteem thing.

People who lie make me sick.
They don't have any confidence in who they really are, and their real lives, so they have to make up stuff to make themselves look better.
