Talons are on birds if prey, chickens have toenails for scratching the ground when they are foraging for food.

only birds of prey have talons, but to answer your question:
hens dont really have large claws; roosters have huge spurs on their feet!!

Roosters, (males) have spurs, ( on the upper leg) not on the toe.
and they can vary in size depending on their age, and other factors.
and believe me they know how to use them!
my aunt has bantam chickens, and there is one black one in particular that gets me every time I go over there!
has drew blood.

depends on the breed I guess, i love chickens they can become very tame and lay eggs all over the place/ they also eat bugs and small mice~~they are so smart i had a chicken name chig chigga in~~and she came to me when i called her like a dog
