A person doesn't actually "get those powers" as if he or she becomes imbued with some supernatural force. Instead seducing and deceiving evil spirits lure people into the occult be giving them special revelations of knowledge that come from the invisible spirit realm.

It's one of the schemes of the devil and his minions to bring as many people who are created in God's image to destruction as they can. The Bible says that Lucifer or Satan wants to take God's place and steal his worship. But the evil one knows that his time is limited and his future destruction is guaranteed. So in his angry rebellion he seeks to try to grieve God by robbing Him of worship and getting beings created in His image to join in his rebellion.
