My room is 16'x20' w/ vaulted ceiling.I read wallspkrs go about ear level ,seated. What is good height for tv? Cntr spkr is below tv?I'm going w/polk tc265i for front& cntr and polk tc65i for rears.polk psw303 for sub. How far away from side of tv for spkrs?I'm remodeling now so i want to get wires in right spots. TV would be on the 20' wall, which has a marble fireplace taking up half the wall. Rear spkrs will be about 7' up because of beam placement for vault. I'm stuck with that.I'm thinking of going with sony or sharp aquos for tv.I have not decided on that yet.I have tried Dolby.com but that did not give me heights, just angles. Thanks for the info

Front speakers should be at or near ear level. Side and surround can be higher however if you can get away with ear level go for it. Center can be below or above, angled toward listener(s).

Placement is best done in 1/3rd's. Cut the room in to 3 sections in both directions. Front speakers should each be on a 1/3rd line. (if that's not possible then go for 5th, 7th, 9th , the odds) Same with the sides (for 7.1), 2/3rds of the way back. Seating should be about 2/3rd's back basically in line with the side speakers (7.1). Rears should be on the same line as the fronts.

However since you are using the long wall (20feet) for the front you might want to go with 1/5th's placing the front (and rear) speakers on the 2/5th's and 4/5th's lines. Or maybe the 7th's.

This is all obviously under ideal circumstances. You may need to sit a little closer in a room that large than 2/3rds of the way back for a 50" TV. Or the S.O. may arrange the seating so as to throw every thing off. However sticking to odd divisions is usually your best bet.

I would say that your TV level should be at eye level or some close approximating, wherever you are comfortable viewing it at. Center speakers can be placed at above or below your TV, again this is at your discretion. If the right and left speakers are not magnetically shielded try to keep them at least one ft. from the TV. Most speakers sound their best when placed at ear level when seated, The right and left speakers should be within one foot of the level (above or below) your center speaker, this will give your surround sound a more seamless sound when the action lets say goes from right to left. Hope this helps.
