If you have a 4.0 then 4.10 gears are good for 33's on a cherokee. I wouldn't go bigger than that on those gears or with a Dana 35 in the back. That axle has c-clips and is not a very sturdy design for larger than that. Many people do run 35's, but you will see a lot of them broken too, even on the street. Randy's Ring and Pinion is a well known and respected name to the Jeep community. Also Alloy USA is a newer company and their products and customer service is said to be excellent. Their products can be bought by many different places. I beleive northwest 4x4 sells them and he is a very good guy to deal with. As far as the locker ARB makes the most common selectable, theirs is the Air powered one. It is good and reliable, but requires you to also have an air compressor. Eaton, which owns Detroit locker, makes a really good electric locker. There are many more on the market now, it is just a matter of finding one that fits your personal needs and trying it. You might try joining a Jeep forum. I'm a member of www.jeepsunlimited.com and all of the information that I've given here would likely be repeated there.

Selectable lockers, electric or air activated are a perfect choice for the front axle. It turns out that they also are delicate in nature and need to be used frecuently, besides they are expensive compared to regular lockers.
I'll suggest you to consider how much time you'll have off roading and decide betwen a full regular locker or a positrack for your front axle and a full regular locker for your rear axle.
A 98 Cherokee should have a Dana 30 differential in the front axle and a Dana 35 differential in the rear axle you should be able to use up to 35" tires and 4.10 gears you're in the better gas mileage side of the gear table.

ARB airlockers are teriffic. they stay off unless you turn 'em on. they come with a small compressor that activates the lockers - there are two switches in the cab of your truck to activate. The compressor can also be used to reinflate your tires for the drive home. Man i really cant see a negative to these. Nor have i ever heard a bad story about them. Just remember to activate the lockers BEFORE you need them.
