My daughter and I have adopted a soldier in Afganestan and a Marine in Iraq. My daughters goal is to send every millitary person from our home town a care package. The local paper heard about what she was doing and took her picture and ran her storry on the front page of the paper. Now the local news station is running a storry on her. I asked the wal mart manager if they would allow a donation box and a list of items needed for the millitary overseas. Then people could come in an buy and item and put it in the box. Or if there could be a container for people to donate loose change for postage. I was told no. So I said well for the hurican katrina victimes you had donation boxs out for money and items. And he said well those people were homeless and the soldiers have a place to stay while at war. So I asked for a small donation to pick up some items in the store to send overseas to the hospials and soldiers. He told me no and that wal mart had no money to help with a donation. read on

the thing that gets me is that people would have come into the store and purchased the items at wal mart and dropped them in a box by customer service. Wal mart would have made money. So when they said no to that I asked for the dontation and still got a no because the soldiers are not homeless. I am not putting down katrina victimes. but to the person who made the reponse below about not comparing katrina to the war. well all the katrina victimes got a free ride, new homes. free money, debit cards. fancy hotels, fancy cruise ships to live in. These soldiers in tents in 125 degree heat. The goverment is not providing for our soldiers the way they should, so I guess why should wal mart give a dam. All wal mart cares about is keeping there swet shops going in other countries.

I had heard once (don't take this to heart because I have no backup that this is true) that a group of Marines had written into starbucks and asked them to send them some coffee because they loved their coffee and really missed it, well they were told no because starbucks didn't agree with the war. It's sad. The president declared the war. We (my brothers and sisters in arms) are fighting it so they don't have to. If you don't support the war at least support us. I am dual military (my spouse and myself are both Army) and I know from experiance that a little love from someone back home does wonders for a soldier at war. Thank your daughter for me. Let her know she is my hero.

No. The manager is being an a$$. I work for Sam's Club (owned by Wal-Mart). I know for a FACT that my manager would agree to anything involving helping the troops. It sounds like this manager doesn't support the troops and his personal beliefs are getting in the way. Talk to a different manager. Or go to the Wal-Mart and ask to speak to their DO (director of operations). He/she might be based there. If not, get the DO's contact info.
PS My bf is an Iraq War veteran.

I would think it's the manager- wal-mart managers rise through the ranks and it is not unusual for them to play politics. I know this because I am close to several people that have worked in several wal-marts all over the country, and the story is the same. The manager can run the store as he sees fit, so I would blame him/her. Should Wal-Mart be blamed as a whole? Possibly, becuase they have a history of letting things like this happen. But I would definitely be mad at the manager, as he calls the shots, for sure.

I think you should give the Town/city you live in.
The Address of the WAL-MART that you are referring to.
The First name of the Manager you are speaking about.
You have told a interesting story without any details.
We have a WAL-Mart here where I live and I sometimes go there.
They are very generous to our community and Supportive of our troops.
Give us some information we can use to verify your story.
I would love to write the Walton's and ask them about this, but, I want to know the facts first.
Yours: Grumpy

Yes they are, I never cared for the jars at the check out counters, because you donate your money, and the Wal-Mart or any other retailer in turn donates it to charity, then wal-mart get to use that donation as a tax write off. That's why they probably wouldn't help you, there was nothing in it for them.

You need to call the TV stations, and news papers........AND get Bill O'Reilly on Fox to do a story or any big news show You'll see a difference........ I would also let the MAIN headquarters know what this manger said as the Wal Mart here is all for our Troops....Maybe the manger is an asshole and doesn't like OUR troops !!.Let the main HEADQUARTERS KNOW !!!

Contact the main offices of Wal-Mart....he probably doesn't avhe the authority to make such offers or to makes such decisions.....yet, it would be hard for me to believe that the main office would not do something to help....they may ask for some prrof, so you may want to be prepared to fax the story, etc etc.....but they can help, even if the store manager is being an A$$

I can't believe that! I used to think Wal Mart was around to help people....due to low prices and stuff like that, and since Sam Walton is very rich and everything....I heard stories of Wal Mart helping people on Mission Trips and stuff like that...I can't believe it....that's awful....especially if this is for the troops fighting for the country....maybe its just the awful manager?? I hope he gets back what he deserves....
I think its wonderful what you and your daughter do...the world is made brighter by the people like you =).....

I'm not sure what city you live in, but the Wal-Marts here in El Paso, TX are very generous. Even the Sam's Clubs are very involved. I'd write the general or district manager if I were you.
