this is a hard one well a LCD is liquid Cristal display and they are a bet more than some plasma's and they are a brighter TV and it has a better pitcher than plasma;s plasma's are costly and they look good and yes they to have a nice pitcher to but you got down falls one;s that can costly a lot to replace like you should not play any video games or keep some thing rolling at the bottom of the screen there called tickers like you see on head line news they will burn and you will have coaled streaks and they will not go away and plasmas are really hot they will run up in the low 60 to high 80's and if you live up past 3.000 feet you cant run a plasma they are ran with a gas that is comp-rest a LCD is Crystal's that are liquid and are best for what ever you do with it TVs are investments and you want to do it right go with a big LCD you will fall in love

The difference between LCD's and Plasma screens are that LCD's are made of millions of tiny pixels as were plasma is a liquid. They both look brilliant on HDTV of course, but on basic or digital cable it is crap. On satellite it looks a bit better then digital cable, but it still doesn't come close to HDTV programming. Without HDTV there is no point in buying a Plasma or LCD screen unless of course your hooking it up to a PC. Yes, Plasma does look better and has the best quality, but has a shorter life span then LCD. Now the problem with LCD is that pixels tend to die out and then you start seeing small spots of black on your screen which sucks. Whatever you choose just make sure you can afford HDTV programming before you spend thousands on a Plasma or LCD TV. I speak from experience. Best of luck.

Besides price, you should look at the burn rate and life span of LCD vs Plasma.
I think plasmas inherently are more prone to burn in - that means when a part of the screen is too bright, the portion of that screen might be damaged and always show a shadow there. LCDs tend to be less susceptible to that.
LCDs also tend to have a longer life span. When you buy a monitor it will tell you how many hours of usage you will typically get out of it. 5,000hrs, 10,000hrs 50,000hrs, you get the picture. Anyway. LCDs have a longer life span compared to plasma.
