Ex: Dems dating Republicans, atheists dating Christians? Does it interfere? Do you avoid certain topics? Do your differences add a little "spark" to your relationship? Will this last?

My husband was Jewish and a democrat. I am Christian and a republican. I say "was" because he passed away. But our marriage was wonderful. We discussed our differences. We talked about our beliefs. But we never fought about them. And above all else, we respected each other and believed in the right to be who and what we were. Just because we disagreed both politically and religiously didn't mean that we couldn't share a love and respect for life and for each other. I miss him terribly.

Not quite at the dating stage, but yes, we would discuss everything.

Personally, I don't see how you could date someone and avoid such topics, after all the point of dating is getting to know the other person better. If you can't talk about potentially controversial things now, getting engaged or married is probably not such a good idea.

We are all different in one way or another. However strongly we may feel about our beliefs, there is usually some good point in "the other side" also. We can either accept our differences and have the vision to see them make our relationship stronger, or we can let them separate/destroy us.

Who cares? I would never "date" based on that. You either think they're hot and there's chemistry and then you go from there.

I certainly would not care if the person was an Armenian Orthodox Christian who espoused killing the Turks if she was into me and we were about to do the horizontal aardvark.

Now, if you're talking marriage, no way in hell I'd marry any religious or political nut. I will say religion does get in the way more in relationships with in-laws.

My husband is a WASP and I am NOT. We just agree to disagree and stay away from certain subjects.

it'll last if there's love, respect, honor, loyalty, good will, caring, acceptance, flexibility, and most of all TRUTHFULNESS.

there's more but these will get it going.
