This is caused by a recessive gene, and both sides need to be carriers, or affected. With the offspring, some will be affected, some will be carriers, and the small remaining percentage will be unaffected. It's Mendel's theory (genetics). It's just Sods Law that this puppy happens to be the affected. However, it is good that he's being neutered because retained testicles will most likely become cancerous so it needs to be located, and removed. Obviously the breeder will, hopefully, know not to repeat this pairing, or closely related animals either as the fault is in there somewhere. Don't worry, he'll be fine, once he's neutered. ps Dogs with only one testicle are called Monorchids. Cryptorchids have neither descended.

How old is your dog?
If a male can actually mate, he can usually sire.
I don't believe if he's simply so young that his testicles have not descended that he will actually mate, however if it's another reason, and he's old enough he very well may, and it could be possible for him to sire.
I know he can sire with one testicle descended (cryptorchidism)but...
The real issue is this: If he's got undescended testicles and is old enough to mate, HE SHOULDN'T BE USED FOR MATING.
He can pass this on, and it can be a congenital defect.

they might be able to but if you want to be a responsible breeder you will not breed this dog, have him neutered. having the condescended testicles is a fault in the show ring and will be passed on to his puppies. it will not make the breed better and this is what you should want to do. plus the retained testicles could cause him problems down the road like aggressive behavior , marking everything in your house and cancer.

Probably not.

You need to take the dog to the vet and have the undescended testicles removed. There is a high chance of them becoming cancerous.

NO, The testicles have to be on the outside of the body. By not descending the sperm is kept at to High a tepreture and they all die.

If both are still up he's sterile, If one is down he could sire a litter. In both cases the cancer risk is playing with his life to leave him unneutered. If he' over 6 months it'll be a miracle if they ever show, if he's under there is still hope (but the older the less chance they ever show)

i have heard of dogs with undescended testicle that still sire..but the prob with undescended testicle is that it might developed into cancerous tumor..i neutered by dogs because the vet advise it better and healthy for the dog.

Depending on the age of the dog you should take him to the vet. He could need to be neutered to prevent cancer. We have a male Pomeranian that this happened to.

Age does make a difference. 6mos old? give it time! 1year old, call a vet! Older than that! get this dog some real medical attention.
