I mean food like meat, chicken, Whiskas tender bites, and the kind.

Also, what other "wet" foods can I feed my cat?

Hello there....no matter what age your cat is...they will always enjoy...are you ready for this...???? Baby food...yes baby food. Your cat will love the taste of either the beef, chicken or the mix with chicken/beef and vegetables.

Should your cat not be eating and you are worried they are going to get worse...rub some of that baby food all over their fur...paws usually. They will have no choice but to taste and eat the stuff...for by nature, cats are always cleaning their hairy selves.

This is only as a "bonus" treat...not intended as a meal. In some cases used to heal a cat from whatever is ailing them in not eating.

To answer your question...call your vet...tell him the age, weight and whether your cat is getting enough exercise...or do you have one of those "lasagna lovin' kitties" de Garfield gendre?!? LOL. She'll/he'll let you know.

Ciao ~ Sky

Pretty much always!

Cats are obligate carnivores and lack the digestive enzymes to digest plant proteins. All they can do is turn them into fat, then live off the fat is if they were starving. Dry foods are made almost entirely of grain, plant protein, and so dry food isn't very good for cats. A little is OK, but it shouldn't be a major part of their diet.

Also, cats are desert creatures and they have a poorly developed thirst reflex. In the wild they get virtually all their water from their prey. Wet food has about the same water content as fresh killed prey. Dry food has very little moisture, and because of that poorly developed thirst reflex, cats that eat a lot of dry food usually don't drink enough to make up for the water they're not getting in their food. This can result in long term health problems.

Chronic renal (kidney) failure used to be almost unheard of in cats. Now it's beyond epidemic; it's considered almost a normal part of the aging process. It's probably not coincidence that CRF started becoming common in cats right about the time dry cat foods were becoming widely available in the marketplace.

As for what to feed, any wet cat food will be better than any dry food. Better if you read the ingrediants and avoid any with significant amounts of plant proteins. Better yet, try to avoid meat by-products too. (Typical by-products are ground up hoofs, lungs, crap like that.) Ideally, a cat should eat meat. A good quality cat food will be mainly meat, and it will also have the other critical nutrients a cat needs.

I don't think "wet" food is truly neccessary to a cat's diet. I've had cats for most of my life and have always used canned food (whiskas, tuna, friskies, etc) as a special treat.

If you are planning on feeding your cat ONLY canned food then a twice a day routine is ideal for most cats.

You don't have to feed your cat wet food at all. Dry food and water will suffice. Personally, my cat will only eat dry food. My last cat always wanted canned cat food though, and I gave him a 1/4 cup every morning, but kept dry food in his bowl the rest of the time.

If your cat is male you should have it on a diet of at least 50% canned CAT food. The foods you mentioned should be treat foods at best.

Go to www:littlebigcat.com and read Jean Hovfe, DVM's articles on pet food, dry vs. wet.

There are articles there on topics of cat nutrition, behavior, etc.

IMO Whiskas in a pouch is the pits as far as cat food goes.

A cat can live a long life on dry catfood. However, some get a taste for people food and will pest until they get it. Ours eat dry cat food but when we have chicken or pork--they demand we pay "kitty tax." They also like to lick cantelope. Ours do not want fish or beef. Go figure.

I had a cat years ago that got so picky he would ONLY eat people food. I blame my father for spoiling him when I was on a trip. I used to make my own catfood out of baked turkey, rice and vitamins.

I give my two cats wet food (Friskies) twice a day--they share two cans a day, plus dry food (Friskies Special Diet) is readily available to them all the time. And...believe it or not, my cats are NOT fat and very healthy considering they are fed a little extra food.

I would probably just stick to dry food. I used to feed my kitten wet food and he always had really stinky poops. Wet food isn't necessary but you can give it as a treat every now and then. A good quality dry food is just fine, and helps clean teeth!

canned cat food is fine, they don't "need" other kinds of wet food. I would feed it to him/her every 2 days, along with dry food (kibbles)
The wet food will help the fur in their stomachs (from cleaning themselves) go through their system efficiently.

Wet food is very bad for the teeth. I would say never. If they are on a good dry Natural Balanced diet, they don't need anything else except water.
