start >> search >> files and folders search for winword.exe
If it doesn't find that file, then you don't have it. If it does, just click on the file. You can always download a demo here:
http://www.microsoft.com/office/trial/default.mspx
Alternatively, you can use something like openoffice.org that has most of the same functionality or will let you open most doc files.
http://www.openoffice.org/
If you want to design a flyer you're better off using desktop publishing software like Indesign or QuarkXpress.
You can get a trial version of Indesign here:
http://www.adobe.com/downloads/
and a trial version of QuarkXPress here:
http://www.quark.com/service/desktop/downloads/
You can also get free software that has similiar functionality such as Scribus.
You can download that here:
http://www.scribus.net/
If you need graphic design software you can use photoshop which you can get a trial from here:
http://www.adobe.com/downloads/
or you can use gimp which is free from here:
http://gimp.org/

?? What's "it"?? Unless this is some kind of third-party software application that only works with Word, you don't need Word. Try Paintbrush, WordPad, etc.
To find out if you have Word:
If you have XP, click the start button and click on programs. Look for an icon that looks like a W and says Microsoft Word by it. If you don't see it, look for a folder called Microsoft and click on that. See if the W icon is in there.

Go to Microsoft updates. They have an official site.
Even hit microsoft.com. They will scan it for you and let you know.
Also Microsoft Works Task Launcher has awesome stuff for that.
