My son is autistic and tends to wander off. It is usually easy to find him, and get him to come back, but sometimes he goes far and we have to call in help. He is not very verbal, and is very adventurous. He doesn't always come when you call him. I just don't want to lose him for good. By the way, he's nine.
So, does this microchip tracker thing exist?

If you only knew my son! Watching him is easier said than done. He may be autistic, but he is very crafty and knows how to watch for his chance. I also have 3 other kids, which makes it a little harder.

He would never wear one of those tracking bracelets. He would tear it off in a second.

He would toss a walkie talkie in a second as well. He doesn't get the concept of danger, and he wouldn't understand why I'm sticking this annoying thing on him.

Since he is autistic, you are probably seeing a specialist or psychologist. They would be up on the research. Yes, there are implants, but I'm not sure in what sort of cases it is ethical to use them.

It might be worth your while to talk to your local police. Since the police have 'tracking devices' for certain individuals...then it would make sense that they are 'out there' and probably available to you as well....At least you could locate him when he goes missing...in the meantime...you may want to consider trying a walkie talkie device...only if it's latched on securely and if you think you would get a response...i use a $70. pair of "cobra talkies" when my son is out of reach...they can be purchased at can.tire, and likely walmart.....you could give them a try for several days...at least he would 'hear' your voice...whether you get a response or not, i can't say ....he would of course have to learn 'how' they work ...
I would think that it would be an ideal thing to have in your case, and worth training him on. Best of luck to you.

I don't think a microchip does, but there is supposed to be something that's more for toddlers that starts beeping once your kid gets out of a certain range. I know from having a toddler that you can't watch your child every moment, and it's very easy to lose a child in that moment (thank goodness it hasn't happened to me yet). But you attach this to the kid's clothes or something and have the other end on a keychain. I'm not sure where to get them or what they're called, but I'm planning on getting one myself fairly soon.

ETA to yours: Maybe clip it where he can't reach it? Dunno after that. But I don't think they have a GPS tracking microchip.

They do something similar for dogs but I've never heard of doing it for humans before.

Have you tried talking to his doctor about ways to help make sure he stays safe and doesn't get lost? Can you sew his phone number or address into his clothes?

Yes they are available but it is not being sold to the public at this time.
