Our shop has seen this problem a lot. Usually is has to do with the speed an audio CD turns. And we thought it queer at first but we deduced the problem is the spindle motor has to spin-up at a much slower speed than DVDs and for some reason the motor cannot do this precisely anymore. And other times it is the laser/focus lens assembly. At any rate the repair usually outweighs the replacement costs.

did you put the disc in the correct side up? (play side down?)
did you check the new disc to see if there were any errors ( dust or scratches) on the music disc?
does the music CD play on any a different player such as playing it back via your computer?
is the laser on the DVD player dusty? if so get a laser cleaner disc and insert run and eject, then re-insert the disc. if a normal dvd is playing normally then the laser is not normally going to be the problem. however if the dvd jumps or stutters then the laser may have a tiny dust particle on it.
if it plays on your computer then the problem may be with the DVD player. i presume the disc you put in was not a blank disc.
the disc you purchased may have copy protection on that is incompatible with your DVD player, so take it back to the store where purchased and request to either change the CD or get your money back as it will not play on your player. consider writing to the company that released the cd you purchased and complain to them. also see if the company that made your DVD player have any suggestions on how to resolve the problem. they may in extremely rare cases be able to send a cd or dvd that can rewrite the control chip on your player to fix bugs like this one.

however remeber that in the end you may just have to get a new player.

I believe I had this problem with my former DVD player, had a lot of Cd's but for some unknown reason I had one CD it would not play. It would play every other CD , but would not play this one CD. But getting back to your problem, have you tried a cleaning disk or a lens cleaner for your player? What about your CD is it dirty, try cleaning the bad CD. Is the CD a copy? Could be it is not formatted for your player, therefore it will never play. Try copying the CD using your computer and make or burn a new CD. Make sure if you make your own copy that the disc is formatted for your particular DVD /CD player.

Your music disc may be in upside down. For example, Pioneer is known for their laser to be in the opposite position of the usual optical disc player and the CD must be placed on the tray upside down to play.

If that doesn't solve the problem, see your owner's manual for more troubleshooting details for your DVD player.

To add to my comment with the added info that you provided in your question... If you didn't spend much money on your DVD player, and it's not covered under warranty, it may be time to invest in a better quality DVD player. It may be more cost-effective for you to do so.

Not a specialist, but a little experience. It could be the software you used to burn the music cd.
