our female pit is 16 months, great with other dogs, and has been socialized often. everyone suggests that a male addition is for the best.

ok, lots of great advice...def a male, and we can afford and have room. just more worried that there's enough attention to go around.

How much time does she spend alone? A pal would be nice if she is alone alot. Just make sure you can handle walking 2 alone or you will have to do it 1 at a time if you have no help. Remember you will also be doubling your vet expenses and food costs. If you decide to adopt from a shelter take her with you and see how she gets along with another dog under controlled circumstances. Two are more work, but you also double the love you get back!! Thank you for adopting a rescue.

Two are more expensive to take care of, that's for sure. Don't forget to keep that in mind. We had one female for 6 years when we inherited a 3 year old male. Weren't sure how the female was going to accept not being the "only child" any more. She pouted and shunned the newcomer for a while, but now they are best buds. When you see one, you see the other. Since they spend so much time at home without their human "pets," I'm really glad they have each other as companions.

If you do, get them both fixed. I have three dogs and have a lot of problems with fighting over dominance because the 2 females are not fixed and the male is. So we have to keep one of the females separate from the other two dogs at all times now.
It is hard to tell, some dogs like to have a companion, others will not want to share your attention and will fight.

At one point I had 6 dogs...yeah i know but I am a sucker for strays. They all got along famously and I had no trouble taking care of all of them. When we would get out in the yard and play it was like a big family. The older ones would pick on the younger ones and they would all run around tackling eachother. It is no harder with 2 dogs than one as a matter of fact, they keep eachother company so they need less attention instead of more.

2 dogs are harder to take care of, the time and the extra messes they make, but i have 2 dogs and have adjusted well to their training ,they are very good at it. 2 of the biggest problems are the added expense of the other dog. food vaccinations heartworm preventive . when you get the new dog do not get a female even if you just fall in love with one 2 females will, fight more that 2 male dogs will i know this from my own experience 3 dogs 1 female and 2 makes i had many vet bills from fight wounds its a good thing i work for a vet and get a discount.

Pit Bull mix depends on the attitude of the dog her self, try back at the rescue where you got the the first and talk with the head of staff to try to arrange a meeting with the two dogs because they have the professionalism to see the psycoloical outcome for both.

It has its advantages, and disadvantages. Some dogs like to be the King dog, and get all the attention! I have one of those. He is good with other dogs, but he wants me all to himself, and even gets jealous when our cat comes near me. I have had 2 German Shephards at once thought, and they got along just fine, and were good company for each other. It is double food bills, vet bills, and double the exercise! If you have more than one though, they will wear each other out playing. Also, I never had to worry about security with them in my home. No salesmen ever tryed to stay long at my door! When you have two, it can be nice to board them together if you go away, and they are company for one another. It really helps if you have a big fenced in yard although mine were inside most of the time. Its really up to the owner to weigh the pros and cons of the situation!

I have 1 dog (cocker-poo) for 9 years when I got a rescue golden retriever. (7 years ago) THEN, 2 yrs later, I found a stray shi-tzue wandering around lost in the country. Guess where he lives! They all hang out together...lots of work for me, but I absolutely love it! My kids are grown so now my canine family (and hubby) keep me busy! (Have always heard you shouldn't have 2 females, though. Better to have 2 males or male and female. Females tend to "quarrel alot"! Good Luck!

Not hard at all. In fact I have tree rescued Labs. They seem to keep each other company when no ones home instead of neglected. So YEAH get her a brother. Two males or two females may tend to fight for dominants or alpha.

2 dogs really arnt harder than one, its just more food, and 2 leashes to hold. just make sure your dog gets along with other dogs, as great as the breed is, pits are known for not always liking k9 friends
