They appear to be only days old. She has let me pet her and feed her in the last week only. We have other cats outside as well as foxes and coyotes around the area. We have a space in the basement that we can set her up a shelter to raise her kittens. Is this a wise thing to do? There is no other close place for her to take her kittens other than some more bushes at the front of the house. There is a mean female cat and a male cat that live on our back porch that we feel could spell dangerous to the newborn kittens. Do we take a chance and catch the mother and kittens and hope she is comfortable raising them inside? We feel this is their best chance of survival. Any helpful experience would be appreciated.

I used to be a "dog person" but when my mom befriended a stray pregnant cat, it became a totally different story. When it was time for the cat to give birth, she wouldn't stop calling us (or should I say meowing) until we stayed with her while she delivered her kittens. Her great, great, great, great (oh no I lost count) grandcat is still with us today.

Stray or no stray, I'm pretty sure that cat family would want you to give them a home. Male cats are known to kill kittens to force the mother to mate again. So they would be a lot safer if you bring them in. Just wear thick gloves or use a box to catch the kittens because they might bite you (out of fear) if you try to pick them up. Hope it works out for you like it did mine!

By all means, if you can catch her and all the kittens, do it...you can get a have-a-heart trap if you need to...then all the kittens will grow up tame instead of feral and you will be able to find homes for them instead of having hundreds of cats in a feral colony breeding under your porch...you can also have the mother spayed so she doesn't reproduce again...

Go for it!

She needs to be inside, have good food and able to nurse and nuture her kittens where the whole family is safe.

Since she is friendly and grateful for the food you should be able to get her. Before bringing her in be sure you know exactly where the kittens are so you can pick them up for her and have them with her right away!

i think that would be the smartist thing to do just make sure its not to cold in your basement and make sure the mother cat and her kittens fell safe near you and where you put then, and make sure you be nice to the babys and see if the mother cat will let you go near the kittens to.good luck!

I would bring her inside and and take care of her. Then you could find homes for them or keep some yourself.Make sure you don't take them to a kill shelter. You could find homes for them by yourself.Good luck.

Absolutely. If the mom lets you pet her, you're well on your way to a good cat experience.

By the way, thanks for helping the little fellers out.
