Very good question! And the answer is......there is no answer. Maybe it is because a lot of religion is corrupt, and is used to control people. They probably didn't care about controlling how people treat animals, because they don't care about animals. Not all religion, or religious people are corrupt. And if religion helps people in their life, without encouraging them to judge others, then I think that is great. But often it doesn't work that way.

Where in the Bible did you find this? I can't find it in mine.
Your first responder obviously has no clue either. If animals have no soul, then why does the Bible say that in heaven the lion will lie down with the lamb? And man having dominion over animals means that we are responsible for protecting them....it's not license to kill them. I really wish people would know what they're talking about before speaking. But then I guess I wouldn't get so many laughs on here if people like you didn't post these idiotic remarks. Thanks !

Why do you think it is not a sin? If you believe in the bible, then you should already know that God made man above all other life on earth, not to have the right to do what he wanted with it, but to have responsibility and accountability over the protection of God's creatures. Think of the human race as the caretakers of this planet. That means we don't harm or kill another living thing unless we must to protect ourselves.

I am not a christian but I have read the bible and remembered ready something about not being cruel to animals. Here are some quotes and a link.
Basically, treat others (human or animal) as you would be treated and do not cause pain to any creature that can feel it. License to control does not mean license to inflict pain.
Domestic Animals: "A righteous man cares for the needs of his animal, but the kindest acts of the wicked are cruel" (Proverbs 12:10).
The Sabbath day itself was not only for humans to rest. God also commanded us to give our animals rest on the same day. (Exodus 20:10).

In the Bible it clearly states the animals dying. Adam saw animals die,he knew about death. Animals weren't programmed the way we are with the instinct to live a long time. It is not a sin to kill an animal (even the brutal killing in unneccessary),because they were not intended to live forever.

the bible does comdemn useless killing of any kind,
Certainly, from the Biblical viewpoint, heartless cruelty to animals cannot be justified.—Exodus 23:4, 5, 12; Deuteronomy 25:4; Proverbs 12:10) 10 The righteous one is caring for the soul of his domestic animal, but the mercies of the wicked ones are cruel.

It's a sin. God created humans to rule over animals but NO WHERE in the Bible does it say they don't have a soul and don't matter. God tells humans to take good care of his creation, and that includes animals. So it is a sin.

clubbing the seal is the most humane way to kill it, and the hunt serves very real economic purpose. Trust me that I view cruel and unnecessary death as a sin.

In Genesis, God gave man dominion over all the animals. And you're not gonna argue with what some anonymous Middle Eastern nomad wrote in some scroll 5,000 years ago, are you?
