I have been a vegetarian for allmost 3 years now, and I was just wondering about some of you who are also vegetarians. My question is:

1) What do you do to make-up for all the vitamins and minerals you loose in a meatless lifestyle, other than taking vitamins. I currently eat fish and chicken, I only eat that meat due to health risks of being a veg. at my age (16). So any helpful hints would be grately appreciated.

Thanks!

squeezeplay00, I asked for vegetarians, obviously you aren't one so please don't waste my time with your redundant comments.

I used to be a vegetarian / vegan and I always tried to eat all the foods that I was lacking in for vitamins. One of the vitamin that is the most important for veggies are B12 and you can receive that from dried apricots. You can also get it from other foods, but I already like dried apricots, so it worked. I would check a website or your doctor to find a list of the foods to make up for the vitamin deficiencies that can happen in your veggie lifestyle. Good for you to eat chicken and fish, due to your 16 years of age! You are a SMART veggie!

There are no health risks to being a vegetarian, you are not a vegetarian at all if you eat fish and chicken.

I have been a vegetarian for several years and I too believed the myth it was bad for me. Well 3 years later, and 40 lbs lighter, my cholesterol went from over 330 to under 170. My doctor says I am in great health.

For nutrition I highly recommend the Vegetarian for Dummies book. It seriously helped me a lot. I think people think it is bad for you because when you first go veg, you eat crap because you don't know what to eat. Go to your local health food store, go to the library...educate yourself. You are on the right path if this is what you want to do.

But to answer your question about what we do, take a good whole food multi vitamin...everyone should take this daily. We eat beans and rice, eggs, peanut butter, etc....

Do not do what most new veggies do and eat a block of cheese for dinner, a slice is good, a block is bad :-) Good luck!

I drink a strawberry milkshake, and eat a cream cheese bagle every day for that. Oh and soy milk.

If God didn't mean for us to eat animals, He wouldn't have made them out of meat.
