My sister in law took and empty spray bottle and filled it with water. She made up a label on the computer that said "Monster Spray" and would spray under my niece's bed every night. I thought that was very creative.

Go to the store and buy a can of "Monster repellent" ok, so I mean air freshener, don't laugh, it really works. Make a fake lable and tell her that as long as the room smells like this, then spray it, the monster can not come around. You may be able to do the same with the ones that plug into the wall so that there is a constant smell in the room, but I found that the spray can was the best. This has 2 benefits, the monster goes away and the room smells good.

Where did the fear originate? I'll give you a couple of examples of how my dad eased my fears about 2 things I saw on TV (maybe it's from that?):

Scary movies that are not cartoons--he told me that when the movie was over, the actors went to the other room to pick up their paychecks. That made me laugh, and showed me what the movie really was--a movie. Acting. And he explained how they do things (fake this and that, etc.).

Cartoons--either someone was there playing the tape, or the tape was playing and nobody even had to be there. And he explained how they do the graphics.

Get the idea? Take the fear out of it by explaining.

OH--if all else fails, how about the cookie monster? It is a good monster. It eats the bad ones before they get to his/her room maybe?

You have received a lot of pretty good answers and I don't think I can top it but when my kids say that they are scared of the monsters I just tell them that there are no monsters because I made them all go away and told them to never come back and that the monsters said OK. I know this sounds corny but we really haven't had the monster scare recently so it might work.

buy her the movie " Monsters Inc."........she will learn that monsters are nice. Thats what the movie is about....a little girl who was afraid of monsters until she met two monsters that loved her too much to be scary anymore. Its so cute. My son just turned 3, and he can almost sit and watch the entire movie....so it will keep her attention. Maybe you could watch it with her and tell her that monsters are nice. Good luck. The movie is from Disney Pixar.

Awwwwwwww how cute. Anyways tell her there is no such thing as monsters. Also that you are there to protect her and you would never let any monster hurt her. You could also show her that movie called "Monsters Inc." I think that movie will help out especially because it's a good movie and it's perfect for little kids. Good Luck!!
Ciao~

Read to your child the story that is in the book called, "Monsters Under My Bed" and then re-enact or play-act the ending of it together in order to chase the monsters away.

Is she afraid only at night, in the dark? Leave on a night light. Whenever she gets afraid, reassure her that you are there and that you will protect her. Show her that there are no monsters there--not under the bed, not in the closet, etc. And tell her that you love her.

take a can of air freshener or something of the sort and tell her that it is monster repellent and that it will keep them all away from her when it is sprayed in the room. Tell that the monsters don't like the smell and won't come in there. Plus in the mean time the room will smell better...

My step-kid was really afraid of monsters, but when she was about 4 or 5 (which is older than your kid) I took her to a bookstore and pulled out some books on movies that showed pictures of people putting on makeup to get ready for filming (specifically Star Wars movie shots that showed the Darth Maul guy getting his makeup put on). She was really afraid after seeing the Star Wars movie. She was cool after that. Hope that helps...
