Any advice on old tables and making a cool, cheap, young bedroom?

I want to redecorate my room, but I'm not sure how to start. First of all, I have two really ugly, old, worn out tables (a larger one for my TV and other things and a nightstand beside my bed). How can I make them look better without replacing them? I was thinking about buying some fabric to drape over them, a tablecloth of sorts. I would just like to know how I can pull this off without looking like I'm trying to hide something, or my room looking really tacky.

Also, I want an old-Hollywood theme, but need some ideas. For the color scheme, I was thinking black, pink, and white, with some polka dots. Can someone give me ideas for bedding?

Finally.. accessories! I plan on doing some art myself; I think charcoal sketches would look cool, but what should I draw, and how should I frame my art? Just give me any suggestions on decorations that would work with the old-hollywood theme, look really young, glamorous, and creative, and not cost a fortune!

You can spray paint the two tables (prime first). One could be a metallic silver and the other pink or black. I think the silver would be really cool to add to the room (think silver screen :) ). Frame your art with simple black frames and use white mats around the pictures in the frame. You could draw sketches of the hollywood hillside with the famous letters on it, some of woman on old looking couches or chaise lounges posing. See if you can find any old looking movie posters at Target or online.

try looking for some old 1960's or 1950's movie star magazines or like old LOOK/ LIFE/ TIME magazines to see what the fashions were back then. you can also go to thrift stores to find what you want. it will take some time but the end look will be worth it. example: i found an old(1963) princess rotary dial phone(pink) for $3 at a garage sale. it works! the trick is to know what you want before you start shopping
