I am sorry to here that. :'(
I used to have terrible nightmares after my divorce, my spouse was abusive to me. They were on a persistent basis and I had to seek counseling. Nightmares are often times triggered by anxiety which of course is triggered by tragic events.
What I was told is that you can control your dreams. I was told that every night think about the worst part of my dreams and then turn that bad thing into a good thing and think about it before falling to sleep.
For example, I had terrifying nightmares about seeing people getting hit by trains. Before I would go to sleep, I would think about the people that I saw and instead of getting hit by the train, the train would stop for them and me and we would get on and go for a scenic ride. Soon the dreams turned into very good dreams.
I was also taught relaxation techniques. Before I went to sleep, I would read a good uplifting book or watch a good movie, I also played quiet music and made the atmosphere in my room comfortable. I sleep better when it's cool. I was told to breath in and out slowly until I felt relaxed.
keeping a journal and writing your feelings down helps a lot too.
Get whatever is troubling you out of your system.
Really, you should seek counseling too
Good luck.

Is it close to the anniversary of the death? If so it isn't unusual that it would start up at this time. Or maybe something else has happened to stir it up. have you started dating someone else or feeling more lonely than usual?
Maybe you can try writing a letterto her before you go to bed. Talking abut the specifics of the nightmare and ending it on a positive note. Reminding her how much you love her. If the nightmares continue I would recommend a grief counselor because it sounds like there is stuff left over. Not unusual. Take care.
Also. Perhaps you could light a candle for her before you go to sleep. or something else symbolic. Somehting the two of you did together that you find comforting.
