Being straight isn't a choice, but that doesn't mean you can have sex with whomever you want. Many people have used animal behavior to justify homosexual behavior, but such an argument would never make sense in the context of infidelity or sexual promiscuity. Unlike animals, humans are supposed to be accountable for their actions and be able to control their desires. Also, in the hedonistic culture of ancient Rome, where homosexuality was considered the norm, everyone was engaging in it. The Romans couldn't possibly have all been "gay", which shows that many people would engage in same sex behaviour if their society encouraged it.

Homosexuality was considered the norm in many ancient cultures like Greece, if not Rome. And I was only talking about sex, not love when referring to Roman hedonitism. The Romans also engaged in other hedonistic behaviours like bestiality and watching gladiator fights.

Why don't people distinguish between desire and action when it comes to Christianity?

You're just assuming that homosexuality is wrong. We don't all share that assumption.

Homosexuality was NOT considered the norm in ancient Rome.
The ideal Roman was a virile heterosexual married man who produced a lot of children and screwed a of women, including opther people's wives. Homsexuality was tolerated, but frowned upon. You don't know squat about the culture of ancient Rome. "Everybody" was NOT engaging in homosexual behavior-- probably the same percent of the population that is engaged in it today was engaged in it then. So you have no point at all. (Really, believe me you don't no anything about ancient Rome, I have studied the subject for 10 years)

"Also, in the hedonistic culture of ancient Rome, where homosexuality was considered the norm, everyone was engaging in it."

Interesting that you have to invent 'facts' like these.

And where do you draw the line between "encouragement" and "acceptance", or are they interchangeable for you?

Your need to link hedonism with homosexuality demonstrates a lack of awareness of the numbers of homosexual relationships that are as lasting, loving, monogamous and committed as any heterosexual relationship.

You make no allowance for this.

But I'll ask you this: why would so many people "choose" a way of life that they know will result in them being persecuted by a mean-spirited majority, denied the right to marry, allowed to die for their country as long as no one knows they're gay, be subjected to harassment and worse, etc?

i cant believe how many times this conversation comes up on these boards ...
OK
being straight isn't a choice so we don't sleep with everyone who takes our fancy .. we show restraint and commit our self to a loving relationship then we have sex .. if we wish to go by whats the right thing to do ...
do you seriously think that every homosexual person out there is putting it about for everyone .. don't you think they have standards and morals and also like a loving committed relationship ..
please show a little tolerance for people and be less judgemental towards them ... as Jesus would do also :o)

for the record im not gay

Love the sinner, Hate the sin.

That is the Christian message on all sin.

Each person has the inclination to sin greatly. The act to sin is the one that is admonished. Sin is not a choice for anyone, as far as each human is born into sin. Our choice is whether we act to steal, cheat, lie, lust, envy, etc...

This sin is as great as adultery, fornication, lust etc...all should be disciplined in our spirit.
